Equality between men and women in the world workforce is still a matter of concern. Despite the fact that women represent just over 50% of the population internationally, in no country do they even approach 50% in managerial positions, or in any industry. According to the United Nations, the percentages of women in positions of power at work and in politics are in modest percentages because they are still treated with gender stereotypes. In the US, which is considered relatively more developed in this context, the data are different. While 46% of the total workforce is made up of women, only 3% of them hold management positions and less than 0.5% senior management positions.

Research shows that men workers earn 30% more easily promotions, salary increases and career advancement opportunities than women. According to research, women prefer occupations and roles that promote social interaction. A study hosted by the American Psychological Association found that men work better together, while women work better with their male counter parts. When the “common good” factor enters into cooperation, then the two sexes work together equally well and effectively. There are 4 key factors, able to positively influence and contribute to solving the difficulties in cooperation faced by employees of a company belonging to the opposite sex:
- The manager of a company must perceive and manage the cooperation between men and women as positive and equal.
- Changing conditions that hinder the development of women and encourage the perpetuation of gender stereotypes at work.
- Perception of the difference -behavior and thinking- between men and women. The working relationship is ideal when it is governed by communication and understanding.
- Businesses should provide ongoing training to all employees, regardless of gender, and encourage them to make the most of their skills.
Businesses and society will soon need to overcome gender stereotypes and prejudices and encourage mutual respect, understanding, acceptance, harmonious coexistence and cooperation. In this way the person will be able to give his best, to offer and to cooperate regardless of position and gender.
